About Me

Jennifer (Jennie) Waldo

Marine Conservation Scientist

I am a marine conservation scientist interdisciplinary-trained in ecological and social science theories and methods to conduct actionable and applied marine and coastal research and management. Overall, my work bridges marine ecology with human behavior to support sustainable conservation solutions for both people and oceans. I focus on developing dynamic, actionable strategies for marine resource management with an emphasis on collaborating directly with resource managers and users.

I am currently located in the Florida Keys as a Regional Fisheries Biologist (Biological Scientist IV) for the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. I am also contracted as a Faculty Research Assistant with Oregon State University and the ODFW Marine Reserves. I completed an M.S. in Fisheries Science in June 2024 from Oregon State University, where I was a Science to Action Fellow with the Northwest Climate Adaptation Science Center and a Malouf Marine Studies Scholar with Oregon SeaGrant. I received a B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in June 2022.

Aside from my research, I love staying active and being outdoors. My hobbies range from running on Oregon’s beaches, to snowboarding in the mountains of Lake Tahoe, to paddling through the Everglades and Florida Keys. I also enjoy camping, reading, and listening to music (I pride myself in my record collection). I’m a huge classic rock fan, specifically of Boston, Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac!
